Activate your license

Activate by entering your email address. Lex Cloak emails you an activation link, and opening it finishes the job on its own, so there is no password to remember. The same email carries a six-digit code you can type instead. For privacy, every address you enter shows the same message on screen, so nothing on screen reveals which addresses have a subscription. If the address has no subscription yet, the email tells you and points you to where to get one. Your license works on both macOS and Windows.

Overview

Lex Cloak is free to scan, so you can open any document and see what is detected without a license. A license is what unlocks redacting and exporting the finished file. The activation flow is email-first: enter your address, open the link Lex Cloak emails you, and the app finishes on its own.

How to activate

  1. Click Activate Lex Cloak on the banner at the top of the app, or open Settings and go to the License section.
  2. Enter your email address and press Send activation email.
  3. Open that email and click Activate Lex Cloak. Leave the app open while you do, and it finishes on its own. If you would rather type, the same email carries a six-digit code you can paste into the app instead.
  4. You are activated. Redacting and exporting are unblocked, and the license works offline afterward with only the occasional re-check.

Your license is keyed to your email, so the same flow activates you on both macOS and Windows. To manage, change, or fix a past-due subscription, see billing and subscription.

I did not receive my email

The activation screen shows the same message for every address you enter, so nothing on screen reveals which addresses have a subscription. What arrives in your inbox does depend on the address: if it has no subscription yet, the email says so and links you to where you can get one, with your address already filled in at checkout. If nothing arrives at all:

  • Check the spam or junk folder of the email account you typed. Email-from-product messages land there more than you would expect.
  • Confirm the address. The most common cause is a typo, or a different account than the one you paid with. Re-open the receipt email Paddle sent you and use that exact address.
  • Give it a minute. Activation emails are usually instant, but mail delays do happen. If nothing arrives in a few minutes, request another one.
  • If the wrong address went out, request a new activation email from the right one. The link and code from an earlier request stay valid until they expire.

Still stuck? Your license email also contains your license key, which you can paste into the app using Enter your license key. Or email help@lexcloak.com, and please do not send the document you are working on. Describing the problem in words is enough.

Agreeing to the terms

The first time Lex Cloak opens on a device, it asks you to read and agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy before you continue. Your agreement is recorded on that device, and unlicensed use stays offline: it leaves your machine only as part of a license activation.

Activation confirms it once more. The activate step includes a checkbox saying you have read and agree to the current documents, and the Activate button stays off until you tick it. Your agreement travels with the activation, so your license record shows which document versions you agreed to and when.

When updated terms are published, Lex Cloak shows the same prompt once at the next launch so you can review the changes. It appears at launch, so it does not interrupt a document you are working on.

In the app, press ? or click the question mark beside a feature to see this guide offline.

Still stuck? Email help@lexcloak.com. Please describe the problem or send a synthetic example, never your real document.
