Terms of Service — Lex Cloak
Last updated: June 16, 2026
Agreement to Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Lex Cloak ("the Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
Lex Cloak is operated by Monty Home LLC ("we", "us", "our"), a Colorado limited liability company.
Software License
The Lex Cloak desktop application is proprietary software owned by Monty Home, LLC. Your subscription license, governed by these Terms, grants you the right to install and use the Software on your devices for the term of your active subscription. The source code of the Software is not made available, and no rights to copy, modify, redistribute, or create derivative works of the Software are granted by these Terms or by your subscription.
The PyMuPDF I/O subprocess that performs PDF rendering, text extraction, and content-stream redaction is published as a separate AGPL-3.0 package at github.com/montyhome/lexcloak-pdf-tool. Its source covers the AGPL §6 obligations associated with Lex Cloak's bundled PyMuPDF / MuPDF dependency.
Free Features
Currently, scanning documents for sensitive information is free and does not require a subscription, account, or payment of any kind. The free scan runs detection across all supported PII categories with an interactive preview of findings.
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue free features in the future. Material changes to the free tier will be communicated to active users with at least 30 days' notice by email or in-app notification. Existing paid subscribers' subscription terms are unaffected by changes to the free tier.
Subscription and Billing
Subscriptions are available at $9/month or $90/year (2 months free). Your subscription grants you a license key to activate paid features (redaction, export, and download). This license key is personal, non-exclusive, and non-transferable. When you activate the license and during periodic subscription checks, the application transmits a device identifier and the application version to confirm your subscription, enforce per-license device limits, and prevent license abuse. The device identifier is stored only as a salted one-way hash, and the Privacy Policy describes what this transmission contains and how it is handled.
All billing is handled by Paddle as our Merchant of Record. Paddle handles sales tax, VAT, and compliance in all jurisdictions on our behalf. For details, see Paddle's Terms.
Subscriptions automatically renew at the end of each billing period unless you cancel before the renewal date. By subscribing, you acknowledge and agree to automatic renewal in accordance with Colorado Revised Statutes § 6-1-732.
Prices may change with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers before their next renewal date.
Cancellation
You may cancel your subscription at any time through Paddle's customer portal or by contacting us. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period — you retain full access to paid features until then. After cancellation, the free scan functionality remains available, subject to the modification rights described in "Free Features" above.
Refunds
- Monthly plans ($9/month): Cancel anytime. No refund for the current billing period.
- Annual plans ($90/year): 30-day money-back guarantee. If Lex Cloak isn't right for you within the first 30 days of your initial annual purchase, contact us for a full refund. After 30 days, cancel anytime but no pro-rated refund is available.
- Refund eligibility is limited to one refund per customer.
See our Refund Policy for full details.
Redaction Accuracy — Important Disclaimer
Lex Cloak helps you find and redact sensitive information in PDF documents. Its automated detection uses pattern matching together with an on-device detection model. Because that model works by probability, it can miss sensitive text and it can make mistakes. No automated detection tool finds everything, and Lex Cloak does not claim to. What it finds varies with document type, formatting, scan quality, and content.
Review every page of the redacted document before you share, file, or send it. This review is yours, and it is the step that decides whether sensitive information is actually gone. Lex Cloak does not warrant that it will identify every piece of sensitive information or that redactions will be complete. Detection can fail. You are responsible for confirming, on every page, that the redactions are correct and complete before you rely on the document.
Lex Cloak is a productivity tool. It is not a substitute for professional legal review, compliance consulting, or manual verification. If your work involves a regulatory or professional standard (such as HIPAA, FOIA, or court-ordered redaction), use Lex Cloak as one step in a review process that ends with a person checking the result. Lex Cloak is built to make your review faster, not to replace it. The final check, on every page, is yours.
Acceptable Use
You may use the Software for personal or business purposes. You agree not to:
- Use the Software to violate any applicable law or regulation
- Attempt to circumvent license key validation or security measures in the commercial distribution
- Share your license key with others outside your authorized use
- Sublicense or resell your license key
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Monty Home LLC and its officers, directors, employees, and agents from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or related to:
- Your use of the Software
- Your violation of these Terms
- Your violation of any third-party rights
- Your reliance on the Software's detection or redaction capabilities for any purpose
Disclaimer of Warranties
The Software is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or accuracy of detection results.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law:
- We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Software, including but not limited to damages resulting from undetected or inadequately redacted sensitive information
- Our total aggregate liability for any claim related to the Software or these Terms is limited to the greater of $90 or the total fees paid by you to us in the 12 months preceding the claim
- We are not liable for any data loss, exposure, regulatory penalty, or legal consequence resulting from reliance on the Software's detection or redaction capabilities
Software Updates
The Software may receive two types of updates: (a) detection rule updates, which are delivered automatically in the background to improve redaction accuracy, and (b) application updates, which are delivered through standard update mechanisms and may include new features, bug fixes, or security patches. You consent to receiving both types of updates as part of your use of the Software.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will provide at least 30 days' notice of material changes by email (to the address associated with your Paddle subscription) or through the Software. Your continued use of the Software after updated Terms take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. If you do not agree to the updated Terms, you may cancel your subscription.
Governing Law and Dispute Resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Colorado, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes arising from or relating to these Terms or the Software will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Boulder County, Colorado, except where mandatory consumer protection laws of your jurisdiction provide otherwise.
Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
Third-Party Software Attribution
The Software incorporates third-party open-source components, each distributed under its own license. A complete list of these components and their licenses (THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES.md) is included with every installation of the Software in the application's installation directory. The Settings > Advanced > System Information panel inside the running app surfaces the same attribution and links to the AGPL-3.0 source repository for the bundled PyMuPDF I/O subprocess wrapper at github.com/montyhome/lexcloak-pdf-tool.
Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Refund Policy and Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Monty Home LLC regarding the Software.
