See what's exposed in your PDFs. Free.
Lex Cloak scans your PDFs for Social Security numbers, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, and other categories of sensitive information, including scanned PDFs with built-in OCR. Clear it before a file goes anywhere, even to an AI assistant. You review what it finds. Files stay on your machine.
Three steps. Nothing leaves your machine.

See what's exposed
Lex Cloak scans each page and surfaces the sensitive information it detects — SSNs, dates of birth, phone numbers, addresses, and more. Scanned PDFs are OCR'd automatically so text inside images is searchable. You review what was found before redaction.

How Lex Cloak assists with redaction
Assists — not replaces. No automated tool is exhaustive.
Lex Cloak identifies common patterns of sensitive information and lets you review, toggle, and redact them in one workflow. It does not guarantee detection completeness. No automated tool does. Every redaction workflow that meets a regulatory or professional standard — HIPAA Safe Harbor, FOIA, court-filing rules, firm policy — requires a human review step before the output leaves your control. Lex Cloak is built to make that step faster, not to replace it.
See our Terms of Service for the full language on redaction responsibility.
Half the price. Simpler workflow.

- 1.macOS Preview is free and built-in on macOS (Big Sur and later) — there is no Windows equivalent. It does manual selection only (no automatic detection or OCR), which is practical for a few items on short, born-digital PDFs, not scanned or long documents.
- 2.Acrobat Pro can do each of these, but as separate manual, multi-step tools — pattern-based Search & Remove Text, Scan & OCR, and the Action Wizard — not automatically when you open a file.
- 3.CaseGuard is Windows-only, enterprise-tier desktop software.
- 4.Full batch processing is a higher-tier CaseGuard feature; entry tiers limit it to specific file types.
- 5.CaseGuard runs offline using a machine-tied license key (one per license).

Questions
You probably pay for Dropbox, Canva, Zoom, and a VPN to run your work. Lex Cloak is $9/month — less than any of those — and it's the only one that keeps you from accidentally sharing Social Security numbers, medical records, or financial data in the PDFs you send every day. It's not one more subscription. It's the one you didn't know you were missing.
Adobe Acrobat Pro costs $20/month and has pattern-based search for some PII types — but the workflow is manual: you pick one pattern at a time, search, review, and apply. Lex Cloak scans for many categories at once, automatically, the moment you drop a file. It's faster, simpler, and less than half the price.
Everything — every feature, every update, every new detection category and compliance template we ship. Your subscription funds continuous improvement. We listen to subscriber feedback and ship what you need. The product you have in six months will be meaningfully better than the one you download today, and you'll have helped shape it.
Many PDFs are scanned paper documents — essentially images saved as PDF. Without OCR, redaction tools can't see the text in these files, so sensitive information slips through silently. Lex Cloak automatically detects image-based pages and runs OCR to extract the text before scanning for PII. You don't have to do anything — it just works. Other tools may offer OCR separately, but Lex Cloak makes it seamless and automatic as part of the scan.
Lex Cloak processes every document locally on your machine. The network surface is limited to subscription validation — we know your email and subscription status, not document content. Payment cards go through Paddle, so we never see them. For the on-disk shape of working state and your saved choices, see the privacy policy's "About Your Working Session" section, or the saved-choices questions below.
Cancel anytime, no hassle. Your subscription stays active through the end of your billing period. Monthly subscribers can cancel any month. Annual subscribers can cancel any time after the first 30 days.
The free scan is your trial — use it as long as you like to verify Lex Cloak works for you before subscribing. Monthly plans are $9, cancel anytime. Annual plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee. No questions asked.
About Saved choices
Where your choices live while you work, what gets saved when you download, and how to pick a document back up.
While you work, Lex Cloak keeps your choices in a temporary folder on your own machine, managed by your operating system. Nothing is written to your saved files until you choose to save, and closing the app removes that temporary folder.
Your choices are discarded unless you saved them at Download time. Your original PDF never changes, because Lex Cloak always writes a separate redacted copy and leaves the source file alone.
When you Download a redacted PDF, Lex Cloak offers to save your choices next to it. Saving writes a small .lexcloak.json file beside the redacted PDF, holding the marks you made: which words and areas to hide, which to keep, the boxes you drew, and the pages you removed or turned.
It is your Saved choices file, written next to the redacted PDF when you save at Download. It lists the exact items you flagged and holds no copy of the document, so treat it as carefully as the document itself and keep it on your computer. Do not send it to anyone. To show someone your work, share the redacted PDF instead. To pick up where you left off, open the Saved choices file. Lex Cloak finds your original PDF, or asks for it if it has moved, then scans the document again, so reopening is not instant.
